Salt-Spray Testing Service

Salt-spray tests are standardized test methods used to check corrosion resistance of coated samples.

Coatings provide corrosion resistance to metallic alloys such as steel, zamak, brass or the like. Since coatings provide a high corrosion resistance throughout the intended life of the part in use, it is necessary to speed up the process of decay.

Salt spray tests are accelerated corrosion tests that produce a corrosive attack to the coated sample in order to predict its suitability in use as a protective finish. The appearance of corrosion products (oxides) is evaluated after a period of time.

Scope of Testing

  • Metal parts with metal coating
  • Sample size not exceeding 30 x 30 cm.

Testing Standards

  • ASTM B117
  • JIS Z2371-2000
  • ISO 9722-2006
  • IEC 60068-2

Testing Lead Time

Test duration depends on the corrosion resistance of the coating; the more corrosion resistant the coating is, the longer the period in testing without showing signs of corrosion.
